Our Sacred Legacy

Honoring a Timeless Tradition, Welcoming a Modern World

Our Foundational Mission

The story of Samudra Koop Tirtha is one of spiritual conviction and historical reclamation. Our mission, since the rediscovery by Yogi Baba Sudarshan Das Ji in 1875, has been to preserve this sacred site as a sanctuary for devotees and a living testament to our rich heritage. We are dedicated to upholding the spiritual and religious practices that have been revered here for centuries.

Upholding Our Legacy

Under the guidance of our lineage of mahants, from Baba Sudarshan Das Ji to the present Mahant Vipin Bihari Das Ji, the ashram has continuously evolved while staying true to its core values. We provide a peaceful environment for spiritual practice, selfless service (seva), and learning, ensuring that the legacy of this ancient tirtha is passed on to future generations.

Our Sacred Legacy

About Samudra Koop Ashram

The Samudra Koop Tirtha is not just a place of worship; it is a profound spiritual and historical landmark on the eastern bank of the Ganga in Prayagraj. Its story is one of unwavering faith and preservation. The ancient site, mentioned in the Padma Purana, lay hidden for centuries until Yogi Baba Sudarshan Das Ji rediscovered it in 1875. Through a determined legal battle and excavation, he reclaimed this sacred space for all to experience.

Our ashram was built around the restored well, with financial support from the Dahiyaawan Estate of Pratapgarh. It quickly became a sanctuary for pilgrims, a mission further strengthened by the construction of the Shri Ram Janaki Temple, sponsored by Thakur Visheshwar Dayal Ji. Since then, a lineage of dedicated Mahants, including Baba Mahavir Das Ji, Mahant Bharat Das Ji, and Baba Bal Krishna Das Ji, have continued to develop the ashram, ensuring it remains a beacon of spirituality and a welcoming home for all.

Today, under the guidance of Mahant Vipin Bihari Das Ji, we uphold the traditions of service, devotion, and learning. We invite you to be part of this continuing spiritual journey, to find peace, and to connect with a legacy that spans generations.
